I was reading a newsletter Joel Sanders of Instant Teleseminar recently shared.
He mentioned a friend who was spending so much time working with existing clients that he didn’t have the time to do any marketing to bring in new clients. On top of that he need additional revenue to create his dream project.
Looking at his conundrum the answer seemed obvious to me…
However, Joel, taking a marketing perspective, mailed his friend saying:
“Ultimately you have to realize that the marketing & business growth stuff IS a part of the product (and even makes your end product better). So time you spend building your list and getting new customers actually improves the product itself.
In the business you’re in, it’s all about joint ventures. Get on teleseminars and webinars with peers and make offers. When you can, get out and meet more people face-to-face at events. Relationships rule in this business!
Yes, I agree marketing does help to refine the product. Joint ventures, in-person networking, and webinars all provide opportunities to learn about our clients and make offers, and to grow a business we must build relationships.
It’s all vital to business success. In additional we need to keep our existing clients happy and develop new content to expand our offerings.
And, how do we do it all?
You know the answer…..
If you’re going to do it all it’s time to hire some support. Start where you are. If you currently need to hire someone for $6 dollars an hour that’s okay.
The main thing to do is to start your research now. Don’t wait until you have more time because this is the most time you will ever have. If you’re going to grow your business, work with clients, and you have no intention of hiring get really honest with yourself. This is the most time you will ever have in your life.
If you don’t plan on getting more clients, if you’re ready to give up on your dream, or, if you want to keep your business running at the same level that it currently is and you never plan to expand or grow than you might end up with more time.
However, if you plan to have more clients, grow your business, and live out your dream without hiring, than this it. This is the most time you will ever have in your life so start your search now!
You can ask for referrals, get online and Google freelancers, virtual assistants, web designers or others. It all depends on who you need to hire.
You can let go of perfect for now because sometimes we do get lucky and find the right person.
Get clear about where you’ll get the most bang for you buck and what you can do to create more time in your schedule, right now, and at a price point that feels good to you.
How many hours of support would make a huge difference for you right now? What if you had just one more hour per month that you could put towards sales? What could you do with that additional hour?

- Write a solo mailer
- Create an ad for social media
- Record a teleseminar
- What are some of your own ideas?
What could you do with 1 more hour to build your sales? Can you afford $6 right now or is it $50? Are you better off getting 5-hours of help at $6 per hour or do you prefer 1-hour of help at $50 per hour?
What do you need done? What kind of expertise do you require? What will create the greatest impact in your business?
If you desire more clients focus on sales. Even if you’re making $1000 per month you can afford to spend $50 to get some support.
You’ve got this. If you have a dream and you want to have it all you can have it all, but you can’t do it alone. If you can’t figure out how to do it all that’s your sign.
It’s time to hire some help.
If you’re going to have success in your business and achieve your goals you’ll need a few essential pieces. For one, you need intense focus. When you’re focused on a particular outcome you’ve got to be ready to play full out and make a very deep commitment to getting results.
Next you need awareness. What are you doing right and how are you holding yourself back? If you don’t know this you can spend a lot of time working extremely hard with no results, a lot of exhaustion, and a feeling of emptiness inside – “what am I doing wrong?”
Once you’ve developed awareness, it’s all about self-mastery. Having awareness without making the necessary changes will not enhance your life. What are you aware of that you need to change right now?
And, finally it’s about time mastery. It’s about using your time effectively, making fast decisions and commitments and changing your mind slowly. To start getting fast results you’ve got to make fast decisions. Hi Priya: You’re absolutely right about getting extra help, even if it means starting with the smallest of tasks. The better we get at delegating and leading, the more we can focus on our own contributions towards things that usually cannot be delegated, namely, marketing and building our businesses.
Funny story: after writing that, I ended up shucking my own advice. I needed new business cards, so instead of just assigning it to the design guy on my team, I started browsing designs on various websites and decided I could do it myself (like there aren’t higher-priority projects you could be working on Joel?) After wasting a good chunk of time, I ended up just assigning it to my guy yesterday afternoon, and woke up this morning to a perfect idea and clearly better than I could have done myself.

That’s perfect! I’ve done the same. Even though I talk about virtual teams all that time, I spent about 3 days attempting to create my own website before realizing I’m not a designer, had no clue what I was doing, and I had barely made any progress. I’m so happy I found an expert to do it because my version would have been clunky and much less appealing.
